Are Senior Photos Awkward? | Senior pictures

It's completely natural to be nervous going into your senior pictures. Will I feel comfortable? How will I know what to do or which outfits I'm supposed to bring? When you book me for your senior photos, I want you to have the best experience possible so that you walk away KNOWING you just crushed your session! Keep these things in mind when you're searching for your perfect senior photographer!

Make sure you pick a senior photographer that matches your vibe

Check out their Instagram and make sure you you’re loving their feed. If you’re drawn to their images, chances are you’ll be drawn to them. You can tell a lot about a photographer by their social media and their website. Watch their reels, check out their blog, and make sure their ideal session is aligning with your ideal session!

Book a professional

There are SO many photographers out there to choose from! A professional photographer will know how to pose you and how to make the session streamlined for the best results. Showing up to your senior photos, not knowing how to pose yourself, what outfits you should bring, or what will come after your session, would not give me the confidence to invest. A professional photographer will prepare you for all of these things and make sure your senior session will speak to who YOU are.

Go into your session with an open mind

Going into your session with an open mind will give you more natural results in your images. I promise your photographer wants to be your friend and give you the best images you could possibly ask for! Photographers are your biggest hype person and want you to feel as fabulous as you are!

Some things a senior photographer does to make sure you feel comfortable and have a fun, relaxed session:

I pose you

Never stress about how you will pose or what to do with your hands (insert Ricky Bobby meme). I will go over all posing options and give you simple, natural movements to do that will convey movement in your images. You’ll never stand there awkwardly staring into my camera without me giving you direction! During our consultation, I give you a page of senior photos and ask you to point out anything you like. If there are images and posing you KNOW you would never do in your normal every day, we immediately cross it off. Senior pictures should be a reflection of who you are, so don’t worry about hurting my feelings. Let me know what is you and what you wouldn’t be caught dead doing!

I hype you up

I will be your biggest cheerleader before, during and after our session. I will, without a doubt, tell you how great you're doing over and over again, but know I mean it from the bottom of my heart. I know how special senior photos are, and I want you to have the best time exploring the Syracuse area with me! I will most definitely tell you how cute you look doing all the poses too. That’s the mom in me, and I’m just imaging what your family and loved ones are going to be feeling seeing these images of the grown up you’re becoming.

I create a safe space

Nothing you do will ever be "weird" or "awkward". I promise I will make a fool of myself and probably trip a few times during your session, so you don’t have to worry about anything you’re doing. We'll be ourselves and make AMAZING photos together that celebrates who you are. There is NEVER any judgement from me. I’m here to celebrate exactly who you are and cherish the trust you give me to capture that. Senior photos can be magical if you allow your true self to come through and honor that person! I can’t wait to create with you.

I prepare you SO much

We will meet and have a consultation and go over posing and what you want your session to look and feel like. I also give lots of tips on how we can customize the experience for YOU. I give examples of locations and what those locations will look like at the time of year you’re wanting and even help with wardrobe styling. I will let you know what looks best on camera and what might distract from the subject, YOU. If you are completely lost and need ideas to get you started, I also create inspiration boards for what to wear during your senior photos. All of this is at your disposal and you can use as much or as little as you'd like!
