FAQs for a Senior Portrait Session
Senior and Graduation Portrait Sessions can be stressful; It’s the end of the year, and you have SO much going on and preparing to do. If you’ve never had senior portraits, it can be intimidating and filled with questions. Let me help answer some of those for you, so you feel more confident when booking your senior photographer!
What should I wear to my senior photography session?
It's important to wear outfits that reflect your personal style and make you feel confident and comfortable. Avoid overly busy patterns or logos that may distract from the focus of the photos, and opt for colors that complement your skin tone and the location of the shoot. I always suggest my seniors bring a minimum of 3 outfit choices. Multiple outfits ensure we’ll get lots of variety in your image gallery and can bring out more facets of your personality!
How long will the senior photography session last?
I typically allow my seniors or graduates to take up to 3 hours for shooting time. The time allowance gives us enough room for multiple outfit changes, location changes (especially if we’re driving to a new location), and time to relax into the session. I’ve learned over my many years shooting seniors, if you feel rushed trying to fit everything you’ve envisioned into your session, it will start to show in the images. My goal with each portrait session is to help my high school seniors and college graduates relax and show their authentic selves to get the most AMAZING images for you!
Can I bring props or accessories to incorporate into my senior photos?
Absolutely! Bringing props or accessories that reflect your interests, hobbies, or personality can add depth and personalization to your senior photos. Whether it's sports equipment, musical instruments, books, or sentimental items, incorporating props can make your photoshoot more unique and meaningful. I’ve written another blog on this exact question, that I think would really help. Check out What are good props for senior pictures!
How soon will I receive my edited senior photos?
The turn around time for your finished images is around 2 weeks. I try my best to get your images back to you as quickly as possible, but there are times of the year that can make that 2 week turn around turn into almost 3 weeks. The fall season is considered the “busy season” for most photographers, so if you’re having your portrait session during September, October, or November, the wait time could be a tiny bit longer than those 2 weeks, but I’ll always keep in touch and let you know how I’m progressing and when to expect them in your inbox!
Can I request specific locations or poses for my senior photoshoot?
Absolutely! Your senior photoshoot should reflect your personality and preferences, so feel free to communicate any specific locations, poses, or ideas you have in mind with your photographer. After booking your senior session, I’ll send a questionnaire to get to know you better. After I receive that back, I’ll ask you create a Pinterest board to get a better idea of what you’re envisioning and the vibe you’re going for. I love collaborating with my senior clients because it allows so much creativity to emerge. We’ll go back and forth with ideas to create a truly memorable and unique session!
Can I bring a friend or family member to the senior photography session?
Short answer : YES! I love when you bring family members or your besties! While I like to say I become your biggest hype girl, you can never have too many during your senior portrait session! I know I’m using too many exclamation points, but I feel VERY strongly about bringing someone that makes you feel your best self along for the session. We’ll play your favorite music, and we’ll dance and hang while capturing your authentic self.
