With family sessions, my goal is to highlight the uniqueness of your family and what makes it special. I allow you and your kiddos to be yourselves with gentle prompts or actions from me to get more movement and emotion into your images. With that being said, I do have three favorite poses or actions I love doing with families with kids that always gets good, genuine smiles and laughs out of everyone. These aren't the kind of family photos that everyone is standing still and smiling at the camera. These are the family photos that makes you FEEL something and transport you back to a time in your life that you hold dearest.

Tickle Fight

Once I get that "grandma's favorite" shot (you know the one; everyone is smiling and you can see everyone's face full on), I usually yell tickle fight!!! Moms and dads get to tickle the young ones, but most importantly, the littles get to get mom and dad. When you're at home, it's generally the parents getting the belly laughs out of the kiddos. But when you turn the tables, there's something that happens with the dynamic that is so sweet. Your kiddos get to hear your laugh and it turns into a sort of battle (in the best way possible)!

Running toward the camera

Whether it's just the kiddos running towards the camera or we get mom and dad into the fun, I always try to sneak this one in. I usually will set this one up in the beginning of the session because it loosens everyone up and gets them comfortable with the camera being on them without it being in their faces. Kiddos get the wiggles out and start noticing that my being there means fun and it opens up the possibility for more games and more "real" smiles.

Swinging kids

I don't know about you, but every single time we're walking into a store, my daughter will grab my and my husbands hand and beg for us to swing her. I bet if I ask you guys to hold hands and walk around the field embracing and connecting with your kiddos, the same question will pop up. DO IT! Your kids genuinely love this game and they get the biggest, best smiles on their faces. Your kiddos won't be asking to play with game forever, so let's make these memories and say yes when they ask. You'll be able to look back at these images and remember walking into all of those stores while your kiddos asked for the exact thing.
